Cosmo Lela Steps Up In G.C.F.A. 79 & Speed Index Under Futurity Win

FREDRICKSBERG, TX—AUGUST 13, 2017—Starting for a $20,000 tag two races back, Cosmo Lela stepped up on Sunday with a half-length victory over Lg Mighty Moe in the $44,000 G.C.F.A. 79 & Speed Index Under Futurity (not black type) at the Gillespie County Fairground. Moonshake Special finished another 1-¼ lengths back in third.

With a perfect trip under jockey Luciano Duenez, Cosmo Lela completed the 330 yards in :17.079 seconds, a 92-speed index into a 10-mph headwind.

Trainer Joel Cantu saddled the Cosmograph filly for owner/breeder Jose Edelio Cantu, Jr. It was the second win in four starts for the brown filly and the $15,400 winner's purse boosted her career earnings total to $22,310. She is out of the Eyesa Special mare Special Dashing Girl.

Second fastest qualifier Lg Mighty Moe picked up $6,600 for his second-place effort. Janessa Muniz saddled the Zz Cartel gelding for owner/breeder L and G Racing. Francisco Mendez rode the brown gelding out of Down Kate by Gol.

Still a maiden from four starts, Moonshake Special earned $4,400 for third. Manuel Vega Jr. conditions the son of Moon Shake out of Flying Black Pearl by Fit To Fly. Clayton Garcia was aboard the homebred for owner/breeder Gilberto Rodriguez.

Domynoe, Lord Of War, Zooming Cold, Fantasy Women and Royal Fishin Star completed the field.
