EVANSTON, WY—JULY 23, 2017—Vvr Calvin Labeck, a 5-year-old son of Coronas Velvet, was an easy winner on Sunday when he posted the fastest qualifying time for the Don Pedro Dash trials at Wyoming Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from two trial races will return to Wyoming Downs on Sunday, August 6 to vie for the winners' share of a $4,500-added purse going only 100 yards.
Ridden by jockey C.J. Benn, Vvr Calvin Labeck jumped to a quick lead to defeat Eyesa Special Shadow by half-a-length while setting the fastest time of :6.928 seconds.
Owner/trainer David Greene saddled the 5-year-old to his sixth career win in 24 starts. Mike Lipp bred the earner of $22,388 in Wyoming from the Society Road mare Get Down Betty Lou.
The opening trial went to Be Our Honor who took only 100 yards to get a length lead on his competitors. The son of Br Proudest Effort posted the second fastest time of :6.929 seconds.
Owned-and-trained by Joey Atwood, Be Our Honor was ridden by jockey Jordan Hadley. William Cutis bred the 6-year-old in Idaho from the With Honors mare Doll With Honors. The 10-time winner has earned $21,218.
