SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 26, 2017—Half the qualifying field ran over a 100 speed index on Friday afternoon in four trials contested for the 89 & Under Allowance at Laurel Brown Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from four trials of hopefuls who had not recorded a speed index higher than 89 as of December 31, 2016, will return to the Utah racing oval on Saturday, June 17th to vie for the winners share of a yet to be announced purse going 350 yards.

De Johnnie, a 4-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Dejon, scored a 1-½ length win the second trial to post the top qualifying time of :17.454 seconds, a 104 speed index. Trainer Jose Cardenas saddled the gelding to third win in five starts for owner Octavio Vazquez. It was also the third consecutive win for the gray runner out of Broad Picture by Separatist. He has earned $5,200 and was bred in Utah by Gary Carmichael.

Moonlight Rendezvous went wire-to-wire to complete the final trial in :17.493 seconds, a 103-speed index and record the second fastest qualifying time. Jockey Jesus Osuna had the riding call for trainer Tyler Biggs.

Gibbs and Dean LLC own the First Moonflash gelding out of Commotion Motion by Country Chicks Man. The Running A LLC bred the 3-year-old who broke his maiden in the trial in his fifth attempt. Moonlight Rendezvous was a finalist in last year's Western State Futurity.

Other qualifier who earned over a 100-speed index were 3rd fastest Stirring The Pot, 4th fastest North Entry and 5th fastest Jess Chugger. They each recorded 101-speed indexes respectively.
