Tee Ray Sets Top Mark in Louisiana Downs Maiden Trials

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 21, 2017—Getting his first career win, Tee Ray defeated Ojos de Angel by half-a-length Saturday afternoon to set the top qualifying time for the Louisiana Downs Maiden Stake (not black type).

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from five trials of state-bred 3, 4 and 5-Year-Old maidens, will return to Louisiana Downs on Saturday, February 11th, to vie for the winner's share of $47,242 purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Damian Martinez, Tee Ray edged ahead of the field in the last 110 yards to complete the task in :17.909 seconds, a 90 speed into a 12-mph headwind. Trainer Gary Mason saddled the 3-year-old son of second crop sire Tee Cos for owner Benigno Sanchez, Jr.

Bred by Darling Farms LLC, from the Cause For Pause (TB) mare Fleet Rayburn (TB), Tee Ray compiled a (7) 0-3-1 record last season while qualifying to the Louisiana QHBA Breeders' Invitational at Evangeline Downs. He has earned $18,330.

Black Ice posted the most impressive maiden win in the last trial Saturday. The son of Jet Black Patriot covered the 350 yards in :17.952 seconds with a 1¼ length winning margin under jockey J.R. Ramirez.

Martin Trejo conditions the 4-year-old from the First Down Jewel mare First Down Hemp. Bred by Richard and Janelle Simon, Black Ice has compiled an (11) 1-3-3 record and earned $18,760 to date.
