HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 23, 2016—MJ Farms' homebred champion filly Astica demolished the field for the $140,000 New Mexico Quarter Horse Fillies and Mares Championship, at Zia Park Wednesday, with a devastating 3¼ length win. Get Down Bambi followed the winner home, a head in front of Sweet Splenda who took third.

Named the 2015 AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, Astica got her second straight win this season from only two starts. Conditioned by Wesley Giles, the Jesses James Jr filly was making her first start since winning the RG2 Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap on January 3rd at Sunland Park.

Astica covered the 400 yards in :19.452 seconds, a 96-speed index over the fast racing surface with no wind.

The royally bred filly, out of the champion mare Alice K White by First Down Dash, has compiled a (13) 9-1-2 record and used the $84,000 Championship purse to boost her career mark to $392,923. Salvador Martinez has the riding assignment.

Graded stakes winner Get Down Bambi picked up $30,800 for her second place effort. The 8-year-old daughter of Get Down Perry races for owner/trainer Jaime Aldavaz, Sr. Ann Thomas and Ginny Johnston bred the mare in New Mexico from the Red Hot Rhythm mare Chilly Force. Raul Valenzuela was aboard the earner of more than $281,000.

The 3-year-old Send Me Cartel filly Sweet Splenda earend her first black-type with the third place finish in the New Mexico Quarter Horse Fillies and Mares Championship. Adam Tapia saddled the sorrel filly for owner Eloy Humberto Pena. SMS Racing LLC bred Sweet Splenda from the Thoroughbred daughter of Apollo (TB), Apollo's Lady. Ridden by Adrian Ramos, Sweet Splenda earned $14,000.

Teana Fay, Chickaloni, Bl Corona, My Royal Highness and Jj Jessies Girl completed the field.
