Poutn On The Wagon Remains Perfect After Sport of Speed Sale Futurity, Shes Gotta Reason Takes Derby

LETHBRIDGE, ALB—OCTOBER 16, 2016—Multiple graded stakes winner Poutn On The Wagon kept his record a perfect 6-for-6 following a half-length win over Dashin By All in the $31,813(US) Sport of Speed Sale Futurity Sunday afternoon at Lethbridge. Ivory Lady League finished 1¼ lengths back to get third.

Ridden by jockey Ricardo Moreno, the son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.659 clocking to earn a 105 speed index into a 52 mph crosswind.

Trainer William Leech conditions the homebred for owner/breeder Pete Schoeler. He is out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare Poutnlori.

A major contender for AQHA Racing Canadian Championship honors at the end of the year, Poutn On The Wagon has also won the Alberta Bred Futurity(RG3) and the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity this year. The Sport of Speed's $14,316(US) winners' purse boosted the gelding's earnings total to nearly $60,000.

Dashin By All races for owner Thomas Pick and trainer Tom Kenway. Martin Ortiz rode the Bodacious Dash colt from the Jody O Toole mare All Lena. Bred by Ernesto Guerra Jr., Dashin By All earned $6,363(US) for his effort.

Already a stakes winner this season, Ivory Lady League earned $3,817(US) for finishing third. Kevin Oberholtzer trains the Ivory League filly for himself and Paige Oberholtzer. Bred by Ralph Denard, from the Tres Seis mare Rocky Mountain Lady, Ivory Lady League has earned $30,687 this season.

Munckin, Eye On Desirio, Reds On Fire, Arrow Of Time and Stupendous 109 completed the field.

Shes Gotta Reason Steps Up With All Canadian Derby Win

Coming off a second place effort in the October 1st trials, Shes Gotta Reason put in a big finish under jockey Neville Stephenson to defeat Go Jessin Beaver by half-a-length in the $24,174(US) All Canadian Derby Sunday at Lethbridge. Fastest qualifier Er Café was a game third.

It was the second career win and first stakes victory for Shes Gotta Reason who completed the 400 yards in :20.028 seconds, a 97 speed index with a 52 mph crosswind. The $10,879(US) winner's purse doubled the daughter of champion and champion sire Good Reason SA's earnings total to $20,858.

Laurie Ferguson conditions the Oklahoma-bred for owners Mike and Kathy McNiven. Vaughn and Jill Cook bred the brown filly from the Special Leader mare Mia Jones.

Multiple stakes-placed Go Jessin Beaver races for owners Charlie Weaselhead and Jim Plume. William Leech conditions the colt by leading third crop sire Apollitical Jess from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Del Valle. He earned $4,335(US) for the effort.

Owner-breeder and trainer Donalda Cochrane saddled multiple stakes-placed Er Café to his third place finish. Ramiro Castillo rode the Tres Seis colt our of Hawks Halo, by Hawkinson. The $2,901(US) third place check boosted his earnings total to $20,792.

Gone Fast finished fourth but was disqualified and placed seventh for interference. Completing the official order of finish were Royal Red Corona, Fly Bye Cruise, Separate Jess, Gone Fast and Hrh Tres Royale.
