Boxwineizfine Dominates Hobbs America Derby Trial, Sets Top Time

HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 25, 2016—Under jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr., Boxwineizfine rolled to a 2 ¼ length victory in the second of five trials Sunday to set the top qualifying mark of :21.438 seconds for the $200,000-est. Hobbs America Derby(G3).

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Zia Park on Sunday, October 9th to vie for the winner's share of the purse going 440 yards.

Saddled by trainer Shae Cox, Boxwineizfine earned a 101-speed index in her trial win, with the aid of 20 mph tailwind. The multiple graded stakes finalist races for owners Luis Hernandez and Regal Racing Stables, LLC.

Bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm, LLC Boxwineizfine is a daughter of leading sire Separatist from the Heza Fast Dash mare Onemoreglassofwine. A finalist in both the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby and Grade 3 West Texas Derby earlier this year, the sorrel filly has compiled an (11) 4-2-2 record and earned over $116,000.

Third in the Rainbow Derby(G1) earlier this year, Apollitical Ok defeated Motorboatin by a neck in the fourth trial to get the second fastest time of :21.520 seconds, a 98-speed index.

Joel Valerian, Jr. trains the Grade 1 placed son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Fishers Dash mare Taka Puna. Owned by Oscar Dominguez and Joel Martinez, Apollitical Ok has earned over $163,023. Jim and Marilyn Helzer is the breeder.
