Dash N The Wind Sets Top Mark in Elko Quarter Horse Derby Trials

ELKO, NV—AUGUST 28, 2016—Dash N The Wind defeated Sinful Call by half-a-length on Sunday to set the fastest qualifying time for the Elko Quarter Horse Derby in Elko, Nevada. The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Elko County Fair on Monday, September 5th to vie for the winner's share of a $7,500 purse going 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Cordarelton Benn, Dash N The Wind completed the 400 yards in :20.172 seconds, a 95-speed index, to earn the top qualifying mark. Trainer Glade Van Tassell saddled the Furyofthewind gelding to his second career win for owner Melody Olsen.

A finalist in last year's Intermountain Futurity at Elko, Dash N The Wind was bred F. Bert Lamb. in Utah from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyes Flashy. The sorrel gelding has compiled a (7) 2-1-1 record in two seasons of racing.

Rgr First To Fire posted the second fastest time after defeating Jrs Blue Boy by a neck in the second trial. Alvaro Torres conditions the homebred son of First Down Illusion for owner/breeders David and Ross Hinkins.

Winner of the Ed Giles Memorial Futurity last year Laurel Brown, Rgr First To Fire is a three-time winner in 12 starts and has earned $16,510. He is out of the Lanes Leinster mare Heart Fire.
