Jason Olmstead Dominates NCQHRA Futurity Trials, Qualifying Six Head

SHAKOPEE, MN—JULY 24, 2016—Trainer Jason Olmstead dominated five trials on Sunday to the North Central Quarter Horse Racing Association Futurity at Canterbury Park. The young trainer saddled three trial winners and six of 10 qualifiers.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Canterbury Park on Sunday, August 7th to vie for the winner's share of the $54,400 purse, the richest in the races history.

The Olmstead trained Chick In Eagle defeated stablemate First Flyin Eagle by a head in the fourth trial to post the top qualifying mark of :18.014 seconds into a 12 mph crosswind.

Coming off a fifth place effort in the $100,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity July 10th, the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle races for owner Richard Tobin. Jockey Brayan Velazquez had the riding call aboard the Texas-bred out of Dashin Chick, by Dashin Bye. The Simmons Racing bred gelding has compiled a (4) 2-0-0 record and earned $18,279.

Heza Prospect, a son of second crop sire Prospect To The Top, kicked off the day with a head win over Bold Ruler in the first trial to post the second fastest time of :18.035 seconds into an 11 mph crosswind. That trial swept four horses into the final.

Olmstead trains Hesa Prospect for The Magnificent 7 LLC. It was the first win in four starts for the Karen Glasser North Dakota-bred 2-year-old out of Little Love Affair, by Rare News. Also a finalist in the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity, Heza Prospect has earned $10,383 this season. Seth Martinez had the riding assignment.

Olmstead's additional finalists include 4th fastest Write Your Story, 5th fastest Mascoutah, 7th fastest First Flyin Eagle and 9th fastest One Famous Sign.

Leading sire One Famous Eagle led all sires with four qualifiers. Victor Hanson was the only other trainer with more than qualifier with two.
