V Os Filo Wins $29,500 Bob Morehouse Stakes, Hardy Saddles 1-2 Finishers

SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 26, 2016—V Os Filo won the $29,500 Bob Morehouse Memorial Stakes Sunday at Canterbury Park. Jockey Nik Goodwin was aboard for owner Rodney Von Ohlen and trainer Ed Ross Hardy.

V Os Filo covered the 400 yards in 20.752 seconds, defeating stablemate Dashin Tee by 1 and ¾ lengths. Little Bit Brandy, finished third.

“He jumped out of there pretty good,” Goodwin said. “I knew when he broke like that he would be very tough to beat.”

V Os Filo, bred in Minnesota by his owner, has now won two of seven starts and $34,910. The Morehouse Stakes was restricted to quarter horses bred in the state or owned by Minnesota residents. The 3-year-old son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon is out of Miss Eyewear, by Mr Eye Opener.

“I can’t believe we won this,” Von Ohlen said. “We worked hard on him for a long time. There was always something just a little wrong. Finally it all came together.”

Dashing Tee, a 4-year-old son of Volcom, races for owner Arthur Williams. Paul Treadwell bred the gelding in Oklahoma from the Heza Fast Man mare Dashing Dion. Ridden by Jose Montoya, Dashing Tee earned $5,990 for the effort.

Trainer Robert Don Johnson saddled third place finisher Little Bit Brandy for owner/breeder Lowell Schrupp. David Pinon rode the stakes winning gelding by Within Range out of Little Special Flame, by Special Effort. He picked up $4,425 to push his earnings total past $60,000.

Wavin Bye Bye Carver, Fishin In The Brook, Rey D Arrangue, Dashing Good Reason, Bee Bee Guns and Irish Brew completed the field. The race, in its 17th edition, is named for the late Bob Morehouse, a Canterbury Park Hall of Fame breeder.
