Pollitical Scorpion Wins Second Straight Race, Taking Easy Date Stakes At Remington Park

Pollitical Scorpion Wins Second Straight Race, Taking Easy Date Stakes At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 29, 2016— Pollitical Scorpion methodically wore down heavily favored Candy Cartels Cat to win Sunday’s $70,000 Easy Date Stakes for older Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares at Remington Park.

Breaking from the far outside in post position nine, Pollitical Scorpion played catch-up in the 350-yard race. She hit the finish a nose in front of Candy Cartels Cat who led from the start but could not maintain her advantage. Cartel Rosie was third, 1-1/4 lengths behind the top pair. Pollitical Scorpion crossed the line in :17.33 seconds over a fast track.

Owned and bred by Jahree Standridge of Coalgate, Okla., Pollitical Scorpion is trained by Luis Villafranco and was handled by Mario Delgado. At 7-1 odds, Pollitical Scorpion paid $16 to win, $6.60 to place and $3.80 to show. Candy Cartels Cat was 3-5 in the betting, paying $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. Cartel Rosie returned $4 to show.

The Easy Date Stakes win is the fifth from 12 lifetime starts for Pollitical Scorpion, a 3-year-old filly by Apollitical Jess from the Strawfly Special mare Sting Scorpion Sting. She won her second straight race and made $39,600 in the process to bring her career total to $108,604.

Clinton Crawford saddled Candy Cartels Cat to her second place effort for owner PV Quarter Horse Farms, LLC. Carl Pevehouse bred the Red Storm Cat filly from the Corona Cartel mare Candy Cartel. She earned $13,200 to bring her total to $162.204.

Mystery Derby winner Cartel Rosie picked up $7,260 for finishing third. Kasey Willis trains the Carters Cartel filly for owner Stone Chase Stables, LLC. Double Bar S Ranch, LLC bred Cartel Rosie from the First Down Dash mare Long Stemmed Roses. She has earned $170,937.

Completing the official order of finish was Js Abel Dasher, Nanny McFeebe, Boozin And Cruzin, Elegant Okey, Redneck Sis and Great Grace.

The Easy Date Stakes is named after the 1974 All American Futurity winner and 1975 American Quarter Horse World Champion who was owned and trained by Walter Merrick of Sayre, Okla.

The holiday racing week at Remington Park continues Memorial Day Monday, May 30. The first race Memorial Day is at 1:30pm - Central. Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor.
