Eyema Blue Wagon Scores Grade 2 West Texas Futurity Victory

SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 30, 2016—Fastest qualifier Eyema Blue Wagon broke on top and kept to the task Saturday after to defeat Jess Prize Me by a neck in the $217,904 West Texas Futurity(G2) at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Groupie James finished half-a-length back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr., Eyema Blue Wagon completed the 300-yards in :15.180 seconds to pocket the winner's purse of $102,414. Saddled by trainer Albert Franco, the son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon kept his record perfect at 2-for-2.

A $29,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate, Eyema Blue Wagon races for owner Regal Racing Stables, LLC. Dee and Betty Raper bred the brown colt in Oklahoma from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyema Blues Girl, a half-sister to world champion Blues Girls Too.

Still winless in three starts, Jess Prize Me races for owner LMG Racing, Inc. and trainer LMG Racing, Inc. The son of Mr Jess Perry, who has finished second in three starts at Sunland Park this season, has earned $45,114. Jesse Levario was aboard.

Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith bred the $36,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate in Oklahoma from the Shazoom mare Fast Prize Zoom, winner of the 2008 West Texas Futurity(G1) at Sunland Park. Fast Prize Zoom set a track record in her first start in the West Texas trials that year then returned in the final to set a new 300 yard world record of :14.678 seconds.

Groupie James races for owner Carlos Trujillo, Jr. and trainer Jose Ramirez, Sr. Esgar Ramirez had the riding call aboard the Ivory James gelding out of Groupie, by A Regal Choice. Bred in Arizona by H&E Ranch, Inc., Groupie James earned $23,969 for his West Texas effort.

Completing the field were Valorus, Imperial Eagle, Gamey Tee Cos, Willie Be Fired, Lord Fa, Mojo Perry and Stella Lou.

West Texas Juvenile

Take The Cup, a $70,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, dueled De la Eagle to a head win in the $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Stakes Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Borger Boy finished a neck back for third in the blanket finish.

Chris Zamora saddled the son of leading sire Corona Cartel form the multiple graded stakes winner None As Easy, by Dashin Is Easy. Jesse Levario was up for owner LMG Racing, Inc. The brown colt completed the 300-yard course in :15.355 seconds.

Bred in Oklahoma by Walt and Pat Fletcher, Take The Cup is now two-for-two and used the $30,000 Juvenile winner's purse to boost his career total to $35,355.

Cream Of The Crop, Inc.'s De la Eagle picked up $11,000 for his second place effort. Juan Gonzalez conditions the One Famous Eagle gelding out of La Reina de La Noche, by First Down Dash. Adrian Ramos was board the Burnett Ranches, LLC Texas-bred. He was a $21,000 Ruidoso summer sale purchase.

Borger Boy races for owner David Martinez and trainer Carlos Alvidrez. Manuel Gutierrez was aboard the Bigtime Favorite gelding out of Streakin Pea, by Streakin La Jolla. Bred in Texas by Bullard Farms, Borger Boy earned $5,000 for the effort.

Tarrant, James Valiant, Shezaliknthemselfies, Sheza Tempting 10, One Famous Dimple, Bf Chasing Foose and Jm Tacs First Prize completed the field.

Live racing resumes on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MT

The $160,875 West Texas Derby starring Boxwineizfine (3rd race) and the $150,000 Sunland Park Handicap (9th race) at one and one-eighth miles are the main events.

The meet concludes Tuesday, May 3, with a 10-race all-Thoroughbred card featuring three stakes: the El Paso Times, the Copper Top Futurity, and the last race of the season will be the Riley Allison.
