HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 25, 2015—Reigning World Champion Jrc Callas First scored a one-length win Wednesday afternoon over Mad About The Moon in the $150,480 Grade 1 Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship. Graded stakes winner Dashin For A Prize finished half-a-length back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Damian Martinez, Jrc Callas First broke on top and completed the classic 440 yard distance in :21.738 seconds, a 91 speed index into a 10 mph headwind. The $90,000 winner's purse boosted the 5-year-old geldings earning mark to nearly $480,000.

Brian Stroud conditions the son of Winners Award for himself and Dana Stroud. Last year's AQHA Racing World Champion has a combined record of (24) 15-1-3. This is the second consecutive win in the Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship(G1) for Jrc Callas First.

J.R. Cass bred the bay in Texas from the Dirty Coup mare Calla Miss Jane.

Coming off third place finish in the New Mexico Classic Cup Championship at Zia Park earlier this month, Mad About The Moon picked up $33,000 for finishing second. Juan Gonzalez trains the 3-year-old First Moonflash gelding for owner David Valdez.

Hughes Donaldson Horse Company bred the gelding from the I Be Streakin mare Streaking Power. Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez, Mad About The Moon has earned $740,463.

Last season's Grade 2 Dash For Cash Derby winner, Dashin For A Prize, picked up $15,000 for finishing third. Esgar Ramirez rode the son of Heza Fast Dash for owner Oscar Moreno and trainer Mario Loza. Phillip Deville bred the earner of more than $212,000 in Louisiana from the Oak Tree Special mare Fast Prize Angie.

Major Moonflash, Grc Jusplainazoom, Alis Jumpn, Pure D Spit, Eagle On The Fly, Jesscuzican and Quick Dynasty completed the field.
