Chicks R Gone Get Up To Win Portland Meadows Fall Derby

PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 24, 2015—A late rush under jockey Jake Samuels helped Chicks R Gone get up by a head over Sheza Lolita Monday afternoon (Nov. 23) in the $24,900 Portland Meadows Fall Derby at Portland Meadows. My Best Bunny Yet finished a head back for third in the blanket finish at the wire.

Racing for owner Tryn Espelien, Chicks R Gone completed the 400 yards in :20.081 seconds, a 98-speed index into a 2 mph crosswind. The $9,960 winner's purse swelled the multiple stakes winner's earnings total to $$26,083.

After winning a derby at Grants Pass last summer, the Chickie Cherry Cola filly finished a troubled third in her derby trial on November 9. Hector Magallanes who bred the winner is also the trainer. Out of the Panther Mountain mare Oso Gone, Chicks R Gone's record stands at (14) 4-2-2.

Bumped at the 8th pole, Sheza Lolita ran on willingly under jockey Oscar Cervantes to finish second for owner/breeder Jose Pulido and trainer Pablo Rabasa, Jr. The multiple stakes-placed Tell Him Twice filly out of Sheza Gator, by Heza Fast Man, earned $4,233 for the effort.

My Best Bunny Yet put in a late bid, under jockey Deborah Hoonan, to get the show position for owner/breeder Lee Markholt. Nick Lowe conditions the multiple stakes-placed daughter of Best Advice from the Its Royal Time mare Royal Time Bunny. She picked up $2,739 for finishing third.

Little Blitzen, Casino Royale B, Silvies, Hes A Bugin, Sorelli and Diva B Gone completed the field. Jacango was scratched.
