FARMINGTON, NM—JULY 5, 2015—This Fire Is Cold used a strong rally to defeat post-time favorite El Damazo by one-length Sunday afternoon in the $35,000 Animas Stakes at SunRay Park. Joy Of Corona finished a neck back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Alejandro Medellin, This Fire Is Cold completed the 400 yards in :19.534 seconds, a 95 speed index with a 6 mph tailwind. The $21,000 winner's purse boosted the Walk Thru Fire filly's earnings to $113,612.

Ramon Rivera trains the sorrel miss for owner Armando Luis Moya. A finalist in last year's G1 All American Futurity, This Fire Is Cold is out of the This Snow Is Royal mare This Snow Is Cold. Her record stands at (10) 3-3-3. Los Ladrilleros Horse Racing Company is the breeder.

El Damazo picked up $7,700 to boost his career earnings mark to $122,412. The super consistent son of champion sire Desirio races for Daniel Balderrama, Juan Castro and Sergio Castro. Cynthia Gonzalez saddled with Alonso Rivera getting the riding call.

El Damzo's record stands at (8) 3-4-1. He was second in the G2 West Texas Futurity at 2, second in the West Texas Derby(G3) and third in the Conquistador Stakes at Albuquerque in his last start. James and Marilyn Helzer bred the bay colt in Texas from the Invisible Injun mare Invisible Streaker.

Esteban Ramirez saddled Joy Of Corona to his third place finish for owner Isaac Balderrama Ruiz. Jose Ruiz had the riding assignment aboard the son of Stel Corona out of Bring Me Joy, by A Regal Choice. Edward C. Allred bred the gelding in California. Joy Of Corona picked up $3,500 for the effort.

Phenomenal Jess, Mi Sonador, Bb Gentleman Jim and Speed McQueen completed the field.
