Eyesa Special River Sets Fastest Time in Wyoming Derby Trials

Eyesa Special River Sets Fastest Time in Wyoming Derby Trials

EVANSTON, WY—JUNE 28, 2015—Eyesa Special River flew from the gate to defeat Fly For McKoy by a three-quarters Sunday afternoon at Wyoming Downs, setting the fastest qualifying time for the Wyoming Bred Derby.

The 10 fastest, accredited Wyoming-bred 3-year-olds from Sunday's three trial races, will return to the Wyoming racetrack on Sunday, July 12 and vie for the winner's share of an $8,000 purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Luis Peralta, Eyesa Special River completed his task in a quick :17.420 seconds to earn a 110 speed index and the top qualifying mark. Jesse Villegas conditions the Eyesa Special Slim filly for owner/breeder Broken Bones Cattle Company. Sunday's trial victory was the fourth in 11 starts for the stakes winning filly out of Streakin Camilla, by First N Six. She has earned $18,588.

The lightly raced Fly For McKoy held on to the second fastest clocking of :17.552, a 106 speed index. Justin Vanderwoude rode the Fit To Fly filly out of Swift Lady Duncan, by Sir Austin Duncan. Travis Offret saddled the brown miss for owner/breeder Elizabeth Johnson.

Stakes-placed Jeans Lee, a Mr Jesse Lee filly homebred for owner/breeder William Fox posted the fourth fastest time of :17.620 seconds following a nose win in the second trial. Mike Taylor saddled with Jose Romero riding. Jeans Lee is from the Proudest Effort mare Heavens An Effort. Clyde Smith had the riding call.

Stakes-placed Jlcjazzslilbro won the first trial by one-length in a time of :17.777 to garner the 9th qualifying spot for owner/breeder John Robinson. Ridden by Jose Figueroa, the Bono Jazz gelding is trained by Josh Taylor. Out of the Robin Banks mare Chasin Banks, the gray gelding has earned nearly $20,000.
