SELMA, TX—JUNE 27, 2015—Retama Park hosted their annual TQHA Sire's Cup sires that included the $100,000 Futurity, $50,000 Derby and $15,000 Stakes on Saturday's race card.
Careless Lightning Slight Surprise in TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG2)
Careless Lightning, a son of deceased first crop sire Champion American Runaway, dueled early under jockey Larry Payne, before putting Shakem Valentine away by half-a-length in the $100,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG2) Saturday night at Retama Park. Post-time favorite Tc Paint N Dreams finished half-a-length back in third.
Gilbert Aguirre, III saddled Careless Lightning to his first win in three career starts for owner Jesse M. Gibson. Bobby D. Cox bred the $9,500 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Edge.
The gray gelding completed the 350 yards in :17.969 seconds, to pickup the winner's purse of $40,000. He entered the race off a second place effort in the trials and the fifth fastest qualifying time.

Tc Paint N Dreams, a Furyofthewind gelding owned-and-bred by T.C. Flack, is trained by Leon Bard and ridden by Francisco Calderon. The sorrel gelding suffered his first loss in the TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity final after winning his first two starts. He has earned $16,510.
Completing the futurity field were Shiner Blond, Sr Esmeralda, Pyc Tyme, Surviving Legend, Runaway Chick Lbh, Carters Sixy Six and Built Bok Tuff.
Jess Toast Winner Gets Track Record In TQHA Sires' Cup Derby
Fastest qualifier Jess Toast Winner posted a new 400 yard track record when he defeated Shake Em Bok by 1½-lengths in the $50,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby Saturday night. Bigtime Connoisseur finished half-a-length back in the show position.
Rodolfo Sanchez conditions Jess Toast Winner for owner/breeder Maria Guadalupe Araiza. The Toast To Dash gelding scored his seventh win in 10 career starts and used the $20,000 winner's purse to boost his career mark to $120,075. A year ago he was victorious in the $103,270 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity over the same racetrack.
J and M Racing and Farm's Bigtime Connoisseur is a multiple stakes-placed son of Bigtime Favorite from the Mr Jess Perry mare Sinuous. Adrian Huitron conditions the Bobby D. Cox bred gelding. Ridden by Cipriano Vidana, Bigtime Connoisseur earned $5,000.
Oklahoma Futurity(G3) winner Paint Me Perry was fourth, followed by August Rush Gl, Favorite Goodbye, Iba Wagon, Paint Your Hips, Deala Ryon and Corona By Pool.
Zoomin Effortlessly Breaks Track Record in TQHA Sires' Cup Stakes
Records were falling Saturday night at Retama Park. Zoomin Effortlessly raced to a 1¼-length win while breaking the 400 yard track record that Jess Toast Winner had set in the previous race. The Zoomin For Bux 4-year-old completed the course in :19.493 seconds, into an 6 mph headwind, to earn a 107 speed index.

Graded stakes winner Mr Big finished second for owner/breeder Jerry Windham. Leon Bard trains the Shazoom 4-year-old out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess An Illusion. Ridden by Francisco Calderon, Mr Big raised his earnings to more than $202,670.
