Tat Team Usa Tops Ed Giles Futurity Qualifiers, Runaway Vixen Fastest in 89 & Under Trials

Tat Team Usa Tops Ed Giles Futurity Qualifiers, Runaway Vixen Fastest in 89 & Under Trials

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 24, 2015—Utah Quarter Horse Racing Association conducted trials Saturday at Laurel Brown Track for the $34,251 UQHRA Ed Giles Futurity and the $17,691 89 & Under Allowance.

Tat Team Usa, a Separatist gelding owned by Sixto Garcia posted the top qualifying mark for the UQHRA Ed Giles Futurity from six trial races conducted.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return to Laurel Brown Track on Saturday, June 6 and vie for the $11,988 winner's share of the purse.

Winless in two prior starts, Tat Team Usa covered the 350 yards in :17.859 seconds to break her maiden by 1½ lengths while setting the top qualifying mark. Jesus Valenzuela rode Tat Team Usa for trainer Jesus Duarte. Fawna Knight and Ronald Skeen bred the 2-year-old in California from the Stoli mare Wild Tat Too.

First crop stallions were well represented with First Prize Stone and First Down Illusion siring two finalists apiece.

89 & Under Allowance Trials

In the 89 & Under Allowance trials it was Runway Vixen who defeated Mypassionsspeed by three-quarters in the second of three trials to set the fastest time of :17.483 seconds.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return to Laurel Brown Track on Saturday, June 6 in hopes of taking home the $6,192 89 & Under Allowance winner's paycheck.

A daughter of champion Ocean Runaway, Runaway Vixen was making her first career start outside of Los Alamitos Race Course, where she won her last start for a $6,250 claiming tag on January 17. Armando Lopez conditions the 3-year-old filly for owner Bailey Gallegos.

Bred in California by Stanley Watkins, Runaway Vixen is out of the Mr. Greeley thoroughbred mare Western Love. Her career record stands at (11) 3-1-0.

Also a three-time winner, Mypassionsspeed is a 4-year-old son of champion FDD Dynasty from the Chicks Beduino mare A Blast Of Fast. Owned by Abelardo Gonzales and trained by Luis Gonzales the gelding held on to the second fastest qualifying time of :17.590 seconds. Justin Vanderwoude had the riding assignment aboard the Oklahoma-bred gelding. Kirk Goodfellow is the breeder.
