Oklahoma-Breds Face Off In Final Four State-Bred Stakes at Remington Park Sunday

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 24, 2015—Despite driving rain for much of the card, the entire nine-race program was completed on Sunday at Remington Park. The weather was kind over the final four races, all stakes events for Oklahoma-breds.

Easy Date Stakes

This Candys Awesome added the $70,000 Easy Date Stakes to her win column Sunday after taking the Deceketta Stakes earlier this season. Owned by the Estate of Carl C. Pevehouse of Ratliff City, Okla. and trained by Clint Crawford, Ivan Carnero handled This Candys Awesome to a one-length win, covering 350 yards in :17.361 seconds over a sloppy track. Painted Laico Bird was second while Nanny McFeebe was two lengths behind the winner in third.

The 1-2 wagering favorite, This Candys Awesome paid $3 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. Painted Laico Bird returned $5 to place and $4.60 to show. Nanny McFeebe paid $6.20 to show.

The Easy Date win is the eighth from 14 career starts for This Candys Awesome. A 4-year-old mare by Pyc Paint Your Wagon is from the Mr Jess Perry broodmare Jess Send Candy. This Candys Awesome was bred in Oklahoma by the late Carl Pevehouse. She earned $41,982 for the win, pushing her lifetime total to $306,623.

Also a 4-year-old daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, Painted Laico Bird races for owner Charles Hainline and Jimmy Jones. Jones bred the brown filly from the Call Me Together mare Laico Bird Chic. Lluz Chavira saddled Jose Vega riding. She earned $13,964 for the effort.

Nanny McFeebe, a 3-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Furyofthewind, races for owner Mary Passmore Kirby and is trained by Jackie Kirby. Cody Wainscott rode the Debbie Freeman bred filly from the Streakin La Jolla mare Sexy N Saucy. Nanny McFeebe earned $7,680.

Pyc Pick Your Pocket, Corona Jasmine, Redneck Sis and Madresita completed the field.

The Easy Date is named after the 1974 All American Futurity winner and 1975 American Quarter Horse Association World Champion who was campaigned by the late Walter Merrick of Sayre, Okla.

Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes

Rocketair used a wide run to get up to win by a neck in the $70,000 Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes at 400 yards.

Owned by Karen and Preston Cloud of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Clint Crawford, Rocketair was ridden by Ivan Carnero. After breaking out slightly from his outside post position in the field of six, Rocketair straightened away and powered home to win in :19.839 seconds over the sloppy track. Load Your Guns led at the start but could not hold off the winner, settling for second. Novas Gold was third, three-quarters of a length behind the Rocketair.

Away at 7-2 odds in the wagering, Rocketair paid $9.80 to win, $4 to place and $3 to show. Load Your Guns, was the betting favorite at 7-5, paying $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Novas Gold paid $2.40 to show.

Bred in Oklahoma by Bob Moore Farms, Rocketair is by Jumpn from the First Down Dash mare Rivanne. The Boyd Morris Memorial is his sixth career win from 19 starts. Rocketair picked up $41,946 to move his lifetime earnings to $335,095.

Trainer Kenny Laymon conditions Load Your Guns for owner JK Running Horses, LLC. The Corona Cartel 5-year-old was bred by Henry Brown from the First Down Dash mare Dashing Little Reba. Ridden by Cesar Gomez, Load Your Guns earned $13,982.

Novas Gold, a Gold Medal Jess homebred for Gene Cox, is trained by Donnie Strickland. Benito Baca had the riding call aboard the 5-year-old out of Hot Nova, by Hot Colours. He picked up $7,690 for the effort.

A Toss Up, Wagon Tales and Walking Perry completed the field. Nash Wagon was scratched.

The Boyd Morris Memorial is named in honor of the late Blanchard, Okla. horseman who was an extremely successful jockey in Quarter Horse racing, winning the 1964 All American Futurity aboard Decketta, among other famous races. After his career in the saddle, Morris trained for many years and was a fixture from the outset at Remington Park.

FL Lady Bug Stakes

Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds were featured in the $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes at 330 yards with Cashshae coming through to win by a nose over JS Abel Dasher.

Bred, owned and trained by Randall Read of Bowie, Texas, Cashshae was ridden by Cody Smith. The filly handled the distance in :16.586 seconds over the sloppy track for her second win in four starts this season. She was third in the $410,000 Oklahoma Futurity here in March.

Cashshae was 9-1 in the betting and paid $11.40 to win, $6.60 to place and $7.60 to show. JS Abel Dasher paid $6.40 to place and $4.40 to show. The Serge Protector was three-quarters of a length behind the winner, paying $7.20 to show.

Cashshae is by Spit Curl Jess from the Cash Treat mare Your Cash Treat. She earned $41,730 to boost her total earnings to $94,224.

Js Abel Dasher is a homebred daughter of first crop sire The Louisiana Cartel racing for James Sills and Abel Flores. Eddie D. Willis trains with Jose Vega getting the riding call. Out of the Dashin Is Easy mare Shaken Easy Dash, Js Abel Dasher earned 13,910 for her effort.

Also by a first crop sire, The Serge Protector is a homebred son of Copa de Capi racing for owner/breeder Penny Zynda. Also trained by Eddie D. Willis, the sorrel gelding was ridden by Stormy Smith. Out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Directors Cut, The Serge Protector earned $7,650.

Completing the field were Streakin Pr, Vf Floosie, Finnick, Shanondoah, Dash To Separate, A Bee C and Lets Get On Board.

FL Lady Bug was a foundation broodmare for the racing operation of Marvin and Lela Barnes of Ada, Oklahoma. She was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 1999.

Jack Brooks Stakes

Boozin And Cruzin scored her second career win in the $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes, winning the 350-yard event by a head in :17.571 seconds over a sloppy track.

Owned by J and B Rental, Inc. of Grand Prairie, Texas and trained by Kevin Willis, Boozin And Cruzin was ridden by David Pinon. Specials Jamie was second while Smart Money First was a neck behind the victor in third.

Part of a same-owner entry with Paint Me Perry, going off at 1-2 odds with favored status, Boozin And Cruzin paid $3 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Specials Jamie returned $6 to place and $3 to show. Smart Money First paid $2.40 to show.

Winning the race for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds, Boozin And Cruzin is a filly by Tempting Dash from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Penelope Cruzin. She earned $29,892 to increase her career earnings to $55,605.

Specials Jamie is a stakes winning homebred racing for owner/breeder A.C. Taylor. Kasey Willis saddled the Ivory James filly out of Special Anywhere, by Make It Anywhere. Ridden by Cesar Gomez, Special Jamie picked up $9,963 for her effort.

Brian Muse conditions Smart Money First for owner Victory Farms. Joe and Judith O Chappell Trust bred the First Smart Money gelding from the Rock Em Smooth mare Beduinos Chick Jet. Ridden by Jose Vega, the multiple stakes-placed gelding eared $5,480.

Sm Miss Joy Rose and Cartel Rosie dead-heated for fourth. Bp Run Cartel Run and Paint Me Perry completed the order-of-finish. Big Kids Birthday, Bv Travelin Solider and Wl Mr Goodtime were all scratched.

The race is named in honor of Jack Brooks, the longtime Blanchard, Okla. trainer who won eight All American Futurities and was a mainstay at Remington Park until his retirement in 2007.

The two victories by trainer Clint Crawford on Sunday gives him 20 wins for the season, putting him into a first-place tie in the trainer standings with Eddie Willis. There are five race dates remaining in the 2015 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park, which ends Sunday, May 31.
