Dazzlin Effort Wins Second Straight Starter Allowance

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 24, 2015—Remington Park starter allowance races during the American Quarter Horse Season are always highly competitive. Friday night, Dazzlin Effort rallied between rivals to get up for a neck victory in another starter allowance thriller, with a purse of $22,600.

Owned by Terry McLean of Claremore, Okla. and trained Gerry McLean, Dazzlin Effort split rivals while gaining ground over 350 yards to get the win. Ivan Carnero piloted Dazzlin Effort, just as he has for the mare’s last five races. She covered the distance in :17.706 over a fast track. Im The Key led late in the stretch but could not fend off the winner, settling for second. Latest Theory was a half-length behind the winner in third.

Dazzlin Effort was at 9-2 odds in the wagering and paid $11.40 to win, $6.80 to place and $4.60 to show. Im The Key paid $9 to place and $5.20 to show. Latest Theory returned $4.20 to show. Spit N Salt was the beaten 3-2 wagering favorite, finishing sixth.

The starter allowance event Friday was for those who had raced at the $10,000 claiming level, or less, this year or in 2014. Dazzlin Effort won a starter allowance for similar conditions on March 22 at 300 yards, when she was elevated to the score from a second-place finish after another was disqualified for interference. The awarded win then and the actual first-place finish on Friday makes it five wins in the last six attempts for Dazzlin Effort dating to August 2014.

Overall, Dazzlin Effort has won nine races from 28 outings. The Oklahoma-bred daughter of Jumpn from the Special Effort mare Special Dazz picked up $12,030 for the Friday starter allowance triumph, running her career earnings to $86,894.
