Crooked Path Posts Season’s First :12.10 Clocking On Tuesday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA— MARCH 26, 2015—A couple of the fastest 2-year-old gate works of the year were recently posted at Los Alamitos. The fastest so far came on Tuesday (Mar 24) when Steve Burns’ Crooked Path covered the 220 yards in the year’s first :12.10 drill after leaving the gate from the outside post.

Trained by Paul Jones, Crooked Path broke inward at the start and appeared bumped his work mate slightly, but the filly by Favorite Cartel quickly recovered and flew from there. Out of the broodmare Tahma Hawk, Crooked Path is a half sister of Stel Hawk, the winner of the 2013 California Breeders Freshman Stakes for fillies and a finalist in that year’s PCQHRA Breeders Futurity.

Crooked Path worked next to the Walk Thru Fire colt Coronation, who recorded a solid :12.20 drill. Coronation is out of the Corona Cartel mare Coronaville, who was second in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Breeders Derby in 2002, and third in that year’s Speedhorse Gold Cup Derby.

Tuesday’s works featured several other :12.2 clockings, which included a terrific work by the Cody Joiner-trained Bugs Wagon from the inside post. A Louisiana-bred filly sired by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, Bugs Wagon is a full sister to JLS Party Wagon, the winner of the $250,000 Harrahs Entertainment Futurity in 2011.

Trainer Jose Flores sent the Tres Seis gelding Hand Me That Seis to sharp looking :12.2 clocking from the outside post on Tuesday. Hand Me That Seis is out of the broodmare Hand Me That Corona, a daughter of Sizzling Te, who is the mother of the legendary Corona Chick, the millionaire Corona Kool and the stallion Corona Cocktail.

Other sharp clocking on Tuesday included Kittyna (filly by The Louisiana Cartel out of Las Alamitos) in :12.2, Royaltys Hope (filly by Royaltys Choice out of Dustys On A High) in :12.2, Hatefulist (colt by Separatist out of Hardly Hateful) in :12.3, and Shut Out (filly by Walk Thru Fire out of Departing).

Workouts on Thursday, March 26 were highlighted by the Ed Allred-owned duo of Watch Her Walk and Just Another Hit. Trained by Scott Willoughby, Just Another Hit was making her second work and she’s looked the part in both drills.

The filly by Walk Thru Fire and out of Chickasis posted a :12.3 clocking on Thursday, which was matched stride for stride by the filly Watch Her Walk. Watch Her Walk, who was making her second official workout, is a full sister to 2014 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner He Looks Hot.

EG High Desert Farms’ Walk Thru Crystal, from the barn of Yanet Rodriguez, and S and S Horses’ Royaltys Authority, trained by Rafael Orozco, also posted :12.3 works on Thursday.

Morning gate works for 2-year-olds continue at Los Alamitos on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday basis. Workout videos can be seen at our by CLICKING HERE.
