Two-Year-Olds Compete In Training Races at Retama Park Friday
Retama Park conducted 15 schooling races on Friday, with 13 designated for two-year-olds.

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 21, 2015—Sixty-five two-year-olds completed in 13 250-yard training races at Retama Park Friday afternoon.

Mighty Zapata, a $5,000 repurchase at the TQHA Yearling Sale last July from the Delfino Lozano IV consignment, posted the fastest time of :13.78 seconds for owner Blanca Salinas while winning the Race 14 on Friday.

The Mighty Corona colt is the first foal of the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyeing Miss Perry, a half-sister to G1-placed Eye On Corona ($130,593). This is the family of champion and leading sire Jess Louisiana Blue.

Cindi Keeton's homebred Man For Man posted the second fastest clocking of :14.05 seconds with a victory in Race 11. Man For Man is by multiple stakes sire Hadtobenuts is out of the Jody O Toole mare Not My Choice.

In Race 3, Bar M Quarter Horses Charlies Corona was the winner with the third fastest time of :14.07 seconds. A $33,000 Ruidoso Summer Sale yearling, from the consignment of Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Mercy Hinklin's Horse Farm, LLC, the Corona Cartel colt (previously named Coronas Wise Councel) is a half-brother to four stakes horses including Refrigerator Handicap winner Diamond Tres Seis ($300,690), etc.

J & B Rentals homebred Jb Mapricel was victorious in Race 8 with a time of :14.09 seconds to post the fourth fastest clocking of the afternoon. The bay colt by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, out of Baby Perry by Mr Jess Perry, is a brother to last year's Oklahoma Futurity(G2) winner Paint Me Perry ($203,835). The second dam is a three-time champion Kool Kue Baby ($783,519).

Additional training races for two-year-olds are scheduled March 6 and March 13 at the Selma, Texas racetrack. Racing will start at 12 p.m. (CST). Entries can be made in the Retama Park racing office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by 11 a.m. Entry fees are $60 for ship-ins and $45 for horseman on the grounds. All schooling races are non-wagering events.

The 2015 Retama Park Quarter Horse season opens on June 5 and runs through August 8.
