SUNLAND PARK, NM—DECEMBER 14, 2014—Bobby Simmons' 3-year-old filly got her second win against older company Sunday afternoon when she got up by a neck over Shes A Phoebe in the $85,000 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Handicap(RG2) at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.
AQHA Racing Champion Jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. piloted the filly to her third consecutive stakes win and fourth straight victory in 60 days. The daughter of leading second crop sire First Moonflash completed the 400 yard course in :19.221 seconds, a 91 speed index with a 10 mph tailwind. The $51,000 winner's purse boosted her career total to $282,888.
C. Dwayne Gilbreath trains the Dosi and Norma Alvarez-bred filly out of Diamond N Rainbows, by Rabbits Rainbow. A leading contender for year-end championship honors, Foxy Moonflash won the Hobbs American Derby(G2) and the New Mexico Fillies and Mares Championship(RG1) after finishing second in the Zia Derby(RG1) at Ruidoso Downs last summer. Her record stands at (11) 6-3-0.
Jill Giles homebred graded stakes winning daughter of Gone To The Mountain, Penny Snatchin finished a head back in third for trainer Wesley T. Giles. Salvador Martinez was aboard the bay miss out of Himaintenancegal, by Dean Miracle. The $8,500 she earned nearly pushed her earnings to $130,000.
Averyspecialsouthern, Desert Delight Cash, Sir Jessies Girl TB Runaway Lady Te, Smafricate, Get Down Bambi and Runnin Sixes completed the field.
