Foose Cash Sr Becomes Newest Millionaire Following Win in Long Awaited Los Alamitos Super Derby

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 22, 2014—Last year's Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner got up in the final stride to nose out Highest Fire in the Grade 1 $972,100 Los Alamitos Super Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course Saturday night. Dare To Flare finished another head back in third off the inside rail.

The race, which had been delayed for several weeks by track officials, was run as non-wagering event. The track's premier race for 3-year-olds was originally set for November 1st.

Ridden by jockey Eduardo Nicasio, Foose Cash Sr broke out but dug in late to complete the 400 yards course in :19.582 seconds, a 90 speed index, pocketing the winner's check of $386,442.

Foose Cash Sr entered the race with the fastest qualifying time from five trial races that were contested on October 12th. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Foose gelding who started the streak almost year ago with a victory in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity trials November 24, 2013.

Eloy Navarro, who saddled the top three finishers, conditions the multiple grade 1 winner for owners World Champion Racing Stables, LLC and Lapresita LLC, et al. Anseimo Aguilar bred Foose Cash Sr in California from the Takin On The Cash mare Takin Some Gold. His record stands at (10) 6-1-1 with earnings of $1,212,112.

Highest Fire, a colt by leading sire Corona Cartel from the champion mare Higher Fire, earned $156,417 for his second place effort. Ridden by jockey Joe Badilla, Jr., for owner Alberto Valdes, Highest Fire lugged out at the 1/16th pole after leading the race from the break. Valdes purchased the sorrel colt for $77,000 at the 2012 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale from his breeder Julianna Hawn Holt. The G1-placed multiple stakes finalist has earned nearly $325,000.

Dare To Flare, who is 0-for-7 this season, earned his biggest career payday of $110,412 for finishing third. Gildaro Garcia owns the First Down Dash gelding out of Winning Flair, by Runaway Winner. Sixth in the Governor's Cup Derby in July, the bay was bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm LLC. Rodolfo Arvizu had the riding assignment.

Last year's Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Five Bar Cartel finished fourth. The $64,407 boosted his career earnings mark to $1,068,825. The Corona Cartel colt will begin his stallion career in 2015 at Robicheaux Ranch near Breaux Bridge, Louisana.

Completing the field were Big Sky Lad, Dimes And Nicks, Fire Up Willie, Dont Walk Peacefully, Mistic Rose and Mr Corona Cartel.
