HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 25, 2024—Zia Park hosted two additional stakes for Quarter Horses on their New Mexico Classic Cup card Sunday afternoon. Rcj Major Storm was the winner of the RG1 Namehimeastreaker New Mexico Classic QH Championship and Coronas Boy won the New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship.
Namehimeastreaker New Mexico Classic QH Championship
Running in an optional claiming race just three races back, Rcj Major Storm stepped up Sunday to defeat Booyah Bay by three-quarters of a length in the $181,400 Namehimeastreaker New Mexico Classic QH Championship(RG1) at Zia Park. Dashes Best finished a neck back in third.
Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Jones bred Rcj Major Storm from the Major Rime mare Major Kia. His record stands at (29) 7-7-1.
Multiple stakes-placed Booyah Bay dueled early but had to settle for the $39,820 second place check. Harvey Baeza conditions the 3-year-old Brookstone Bay gelding for owner James Baucom. Barbara and Kim Saunders bred the sorrel earner of $118,060 from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Brenda. Omar Reyes was up.
Gene Burden saddled Dashes Best, a 4-year-old colt by leading sire Dash Ta Fame from the White Rammer mare Rammers Best. Owned by Jahaziel Camacho and ridden by Sergio Becerra, Jr. the sorrel earned $18,100 for his effort. MJ Farms is the breeder. Dashes Best has earned nearly $160,000.
Miracle Snow, Jess Got Issues, Bet On Ballou, Take The Spoon Man, An Absolut Diamond, Osbaldo and Here Kittykittykitty completed the field.
New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship
Five-year-old Coronas Boy dueled early but kicked clear down the lane Sunday afternoon to win the $149,240 New Mexico Classic 870 Championship by 1¼ lengths over Super Quintons at Zia Park. D E Wagons Strawfly finished a half-length back in the third.

Post-time favorite Super Quintons earned $32,780 for the effort. Also trained by Cano, the Quinton's Gold (TB) 5-year-old is owned by Armando Aldavez and was ridden by Francisco Giles. Andrea Castellanos bred Super Quintons from the Roll The Cash mare Ss RIgamaroll.
Joey Valentine, Storm Chasor, Lionett, Kokopellis Babycakes and Vicente y Su Corona completed the field.
