Jess Toast Winner, Rattle N Battle Duel For Top Qualifying Spots in Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity

Jess Toast Winner, Rattle N Battle Duel For Top Qualifying Spots in Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity

GRAND PRAIRE, TX—SEPTEMBER 27, 2014—TQHA Sire's Cup Futurity winner and Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational finalist Rattle N Battle dueled each other to the wire in the 10th trial Saturday night. Only a head-a-part, and four lengths in front of the field, the duo posted the top two qualifying spots for the Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the 111 two-year-olds who participated in Friday's trial races, will return to the North Texas racetrack on Saturday, October 11 and vie for the winner's share of a $427,900, purse over a 400 yard course.

Jockey Martin Rubacava rode Jess Toast Winner to his fourth win five starts this season and the top qualifying mark of :19.546 seconds, a 95 speed index. Rodolfo Sanchez conditions the homebred Toast To Dash gelding for owner/breeder Maria Guadalupe Araiza.

Winner of the $103,000 TQHA Sire's Cup Futurity in June, Jess Toast Winner's only loss came when he was third in the $83,615 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs May 17. He has earned $58,970 this season.

Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational finalist Rattle N Battle posted the second fastest time of :19.560 seconds, also a 95 speed index for owner Sunset Will Service, Inc.

Brandon Muniz conditions the colt by leading first crop sire Apollitical Jess out of Tinys Corona Queen, by Corona Cartel. Jim and Marilyn Helzer bred the multiple stakes finalist in Oklahoma. Joe Badilla, Jr. had the riding call after stepping in for veteran rider Roman Chapa who was injured in a spill at Lone Star Park Friday night.

Graded stakes-placed Great Grace got her third win in four starts this season equally heroic effort in the 11th trial. The sorrel daughter of Apollitical Jess was bumped at the start but recovered nicely under jockey Ricky Ramirez to win by 1¼ lengths and get the third fastest time of :19.582 seconds, a 94 speed index. This trial drafted half the qualifiers into the Grade 1 finale.

G. Blane Wood conditions the sorrel filly for George Mitchell. Her only loss this season came in the $720,000 Remington Park Futurity(RG3) at Remington Park last April when she finished third. George H. Suthers bred Great Grace in Oklahoma from the Shazoom mare Reloaded And Ready.

Trainer Mike Joiner saddled Separate Dynasty to most impressive trial win of the night when the FDD Dynasty filly cruised to a 1 ½ length victory in the 9th trial under champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. Diane Evans bred the Ruidoso Futurity(G1) finalist in Oklahoma from the Separatist mare Separate Debt. Owned by Billy G. Smith and Paul Blanchard, the sorrel miss has won two of four starts and earned $62,750.

Graded stakes-placed Good Seis broke her maiden in the 7th trial with by a half-length. Owned by Ezequiel Araiza and trained by Rodolfo Sanchez, the TRES SEIS gelding entered the trials off a second place effort in the $365,260 TQHA Sale Futurity(RG1) at Retama Park on July 26. Martin Rubalcava rode the bay to sixth fastest time of :19.858 seconds. Omar Moscorro bred Good Seis in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Looking Good. He has earned nearly $87,000 in only five starts.

The lightly raced Corona Kelly was the only other trial winner to qualify after jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. rode the Corona Cartel filly to a three-quarter length victory in 5th race. Also trained by Joiner, the bay miss is a home-bred for Scott and Monica Jones. The filly out of Jump Down First, by First Down Dash, entered the trials off an All American Futurity trial victory in her last start on August 16. She posted the eighty fastest time of :19.920 seconds.

On The Track: More live racing action Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 2-4. Three stakes races are featured on Saturday, October 4 headlined by the 18th running of the Grade 1, $75,000-guaranteed Refrigerator Handicap for three-year-olds & up at 440 yards. The other stakes on Saturday are the 5th running of the $30,000-added Merial Distaff Challenge for fillies & mares, three-year-olds & up, at 400 yards and the 5th running of the $30,000-added Red Cell Distance Challenge for three-year-olds & up, at 870 yards. There is a five-way tie at the top of the trainer standings between Rick Robinson, Toby Keeton, Jesse Yoakum, Wendy Garcia and John Buchanan. Owner Bobby Cox took over the lead in the owner standings tonight. He has three wins.
