Late Surge By Jess Bordeaux Secures New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity Victory

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 20, 2014—Jess Bordeaux used a late surge under jockey L. Martinez to defeat Blazin Version by a neck Saturday afternoon in the $92,090 New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity at The Downs in Albuquerque. Jess A Sparks finished half-a-length behind the leaders in the show position.

Trainer Victor Escobar saddled Jess Bordeaux to his fourth win in six starts this season for owner Gary L. Thompson. The Jesse James Jr gelding completed the 400 yards in :19.695 seconds to earn a 90 speed index into the 12 mph headwind. The $46,045 winners purse swells the sorrel geldings bankroll to $91,024.

MJ Farms bred Jess Bordeaux from the Blushing Bug mare Bridgette Bordeaux. He was also a finalist in the Spring Futurity at Sunland Park last April.

Blazin Version dueled throughout just missing for owner/breeder Hubaldo Solis. Kenneth Grisham conditions the Winners Version gelding out of Shes So Blazin, by Chicks A Blazin. Alejandro Medellin had the riding assignment to earn $18,418.

Michael Joiner saddled Jess A Sparks for owner/breeder Gary Kloppenburg. Omar Ryes rode the Jess A Chicks gelding out of Sparkling Ojos, by Cleadon. He earned $11,051 for the effort.

Dungarees Six, Narrator, Major Moonflash, Boppin Bayou, Koonuga Hill, Rapido James and Kcees Shadow completed the field.
