Cruisinfourabrusin Wins Canada QH Cup Futurity, Zoomin Daphene Takes Canada QH Cup Derby

LETHBRIDGE, ALB—SEPTEMBER 14, 2014—Whoop Up Park near Lethbridge, Alberta hosted a series of Canada Quarter Horse Cup races on Sunday's card.

Barry and Janice Sather's homebred Cruisinfourabruisin was in peek form Sunday as he got up to defeat Wave Rocker by a head in the $68,482(US) Canada Quarter Horse Futurity. Fastest qualifier Stella Wave finished a nose off the leaders in third.

Coming off a second place effort in the Alberta Stallion Futurity on July 23, Cruisinfourabrusin was an impressive two-length trial winner while qualifying to the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity on August 31. Ridden by jockey Sean Evans in today's finals, the First Timber gelding completed the 350 yards in :18.090 seconds to take home the winner's purse of $30,437(US).

Conditioned by Janice Sather, the sorrel gelding scored his third win in seven starts this season while increasing his bankroll to $46,101. Bred in Alberta, he is out of the Royal Evening Snow mare Tagulator.

Stablemates Wave Rocker and Stella Wave finished second-third for trainer Kurt Calton and owner Janis D. Calton. Ridden by Jordan Hadley, Wave Rocker earned $13,316(US) for her second place effort. Shady Lane Stables bred the Wave Carver filly in Kentucky from the Chicks Beduino mare Sheza Special Chick.

Larris Allen rode fastest qualifier Stella Wave for Calton. The chestnut filly moved up in the stretch to finish third and earn $6,164(US). Also bred in Kentucky by Shady Lane Stables, the daughter of Wave Carver is out of Special Corona, by Corona Cartel.

Dash For the Wind, The Ropin Fool, Pros Rockstar, Sls Vedette and Honor The Corona completed the order of finish.

Zoomin Daphene Returns to Take Canada Quarter Horse Cup Derby

Fastest qualifier Zoomin Daphene returned Sunday under jockey Sean Evans to go wire-to-wire while winning the $21,403(US) Canada Quarter Horse Derby by 1˝ lengths. Invisible Wagon finished second with Honor The Aztec a length behind in the show position.

Owned-and-trained by Bruce Ironshirt, Zoomin Daphene completed the 400 yards in a quick :19.645 seconds, a 107 speed index with the aid of a 13 mph tailwind. The $9,642(US) winner's purse swells the Azoom filly's bankroll to $32,624. This was her fifth win, fourth consecutive in seven starts this season.

Henry E. Brown bred the bay filly in Oklahoma from the First Down Dash mare La Reina de La Noche. Her record stands at (14) 6-1-1.

Invisible Wagon was a game second for owners R. Danard, G. Willis and S. Jeffrey. Laurie Ferguson conditions the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly out of A Troffe For Injun by Invisible Injun. Sally Box bred the bay miss in Texas. Trevor Simpson was aboard to earn $4,280(US).

Owned-and-trained by Tom Kenway, Honor The Aztec earned $2,568(US) for his third place effort. Alfredo Bautista rode the Honor The Perry gelding out of Aztec Skyy, by Stoli. Ketchemonia-Cote Stables bred Honor The Aztec in Saskatchewan.

Mals First Down, FDD Trickze, Remington Memories, Way To Dough and Ms Ruby Corona completed the field.
