ELKO, NV—SEPTEMBER 1, 2014—Joe Legacy prevailed by a neck over Got Inked as the pair dueled throughout in the Elko County Quarter Horse Derby on Monday. Desired Chick finished a neck back in the show position.

Racing for owner Greg Torgerson and trainer Alvaro Torres, Joe Legacy broke on top and held while completing the 400 yards in :19.942 seconds, a 102 speed index. Ridden by Uriel Dominguez the Brookstone Bay gelding earned $8,073. After logging his third win from 12 starts, Joe Legacy's earnings are $26,994.

The Running A, LLC bred the bay gelding in Utah from the Striking Distance mare A Diamond Legacy.

Owned-and-trained by Erik Lara, Got Inked earned $3,510 for his second place effort. Justin Vanderwoude had the riding assignment aboard the First Sign It filly out of Wild Tat Too, by Stoli. Fawna Knight and Ronald Skeen is the breeder.

Desired Chick picked up $1,755 for owner Filiberto Luna and trainer Jose Luna. Ruben Camacho was riding the Agouti filly out of Rare Diva, by Rare Form. Shane Gould is the breeder. Shootin Sixes, Wills Cloudy Secret, Jess So Sassy, Bridle This Woody and Super Star Streak completed the field. Tarry was scratched.
