Pros Rockstar Wins Alberta Stallion Futurity, Fast Fifty Best in Black Gold Distance Classic

EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 23, 2014—Pros Rockstar, a 2-year-old Promised Class gelding racing for owners Billie Bird, Sandra Nicklom and Laurie Ferguson, won the $52,513(US) Alberta Stallion Futurity Wednesday evening at Northlands Park in Edmonton.

Ridden by jockey Tyler Walker, the sorrel gelding completed the 330 yards course in :17.360 seconds to pickup the winner's purse of $23,631(US). It was the second win two starts for the Laurie Ferguson trainee. 1419677 Alberta Ltd. Bred Pros Rockstar from the Streakin La Jolla mare Streakin Cc.

Janice Sather saddled Cruisinfourabrusin to second place for herself and Barry Sather. The Alberta homebred son of First Timber is out of the Royal Evening Snow mare Tagulator. Sean Evans was aboard to pickup $10,503(US).

A neck back in third was William Leech trained-and-owned Rockette Buck, by Special Fly Bye. Ramiro Castillo rode the two-year-old gelding out of Cleats Rockette, by Dashing Cleat. Garnet Leech is the breeder. The chestnut earned $6,301(US) for his effort.

Happie Hour, Kg Guy and Shazoom Zoom completed the field. Pros Kingpin and Rocky Mountain Rose were both scratched.

Fast Fifty Easy Winner in Black Gold Distance Classic

Herds Racing's Fast Fifty was an easy 4˝ length winner in the $16,482(US) Black Gold Distance Classic on Wednesday evening at Northlands Park. Ridden by jockey Trevor Simpson the Promised Class 7-year-old covered the 770 yards in :39.860 seconds, a 107 speed index.

Donalda Cochrane saddled the chestnut to his 10th career win and the $8,736(US) Black Gold winner's purse boosted his lifetime mark to $111,460. Cochrane is also the breeder of the Alberta-bred gelding from the Streakin La Jolla mare Bubbles La Jolla.

Trainer William Leech conditioned runner-up Glittering Blue, a 6-year-old Jess Louisiana Blue horse owned-and-bred by Rigetti Farms, Ltd. Ramiro Castillo was aboard to earn $4,285(US).

Laurie Ferguson owned-and-trained Sepratariat finished 1˝ lengths back in the show position. Howard and Toni Dixon bred the Separatist gelding from the Magic Dozen mare Pocketful Of Dreams. Tyler Walker was aboard to earn $1,978(US).

Asbigastexas, Baldface Liar, Dash To Zevi, Wind River Jess and Lucky Royal Rabbit completed the field.
