Volcoms Thunder Gets Top Qualifying Time in G.C.F.A. Maiden Futurity Trials

FREDERICKSBURG, TX—JULY 20, 2014—Volcoms Thunder broke his maiden in the last of three trials Sunday at Gillespie County Fair Grounds to set the top qualifying time for the G.C.F.A. Maiden Futurity.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the trials for maidens at time of nomination, will return to the South Texas racetrack on Saturday, August 9 and vie for the winner's share of a $5,000-added purse over 350 yards.

Volcoms Thunder and Dazzlen Dash brushed early but jockey Sergio Fuentes guided the Volcom gelding to his a neck win and the top qualifying time of :18.230 seconds. It was the first win in three career starts for the Raul Gavan owned 2-year-old. Roberto Madrigal trains the $5,000 Heritage Place Mixed Sale 2013 graduate.

P.K. Thomas bred the sorrel gelding in Texas from the Dean Miracle mare Ill Getcha Good.

The aforementioned Dazzlen Dash held on for the third fastest time of :18.267 seconds. Angel Sanchez conditions the Quarterback Dash gelding out of I Be Dazzlen, by Special Leader, for owner/breeder Manuel Manrique. It was the second start for the 2-year-old ridden by Luis Navarro.

Pool Goddess posted the most impressive race of the afternoon with a two-length win in the second trial. Her :18.249 clocking was the second fastest of the day. Nestor Santana, Jr. saddled the Pool filly for owner Jesus Andrade, Jr. Ridden by Damian Martinez, it was the first win four starts for the bay miss who has competed in trials at Sam Houston and Delta Downs this season. Roberto Jimenez, Jr. bred Pool Goddess in Texas from the Royal Shake Em mare Rmv My Shake.

Executive Glimpse defeated Lg ZzRun by half-a-length in the first trial to get the fourth fastest time of :18.276. Alex Villarreal trains the Glimpse Of Greatness filly for Ramiro Rendon, Jr. Breaking her maiden in her fifth start, she entered the trials off a maiden claiming loss at Delta Downs on May 28. Pedro Flores bred the brown miss from the Executive Menace mare Executive Belle.

Lg Zzrun, by Zz Cartel, held on to the fifth fastest time of :18.358. She was the first of two finalists saddled by Jorge Luis Barrera. Owned-and-bred by L & G Racing, Lg Zzrun is from the Stoli mare Run Mary Run.
