SHAKOPEE, MN—JULY 20, 2014—Shipping in from Ruidoso Downs Tom Maher's Lethal N First broke his maiden and set the top qualifying time for the North Central Quarter Horse Racing Association Futurity Sunday afternoon at Canterbury Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the three trials race contested, will return to the Minnesota racetrack on Sunday, August 3 and vie for the winner's share of a $40,150 purse going 350 yards.

Coming off a second-place effort in the Ruidoso Futurity trials on May 30, Lethal N First recovered from a bobbled start to win the last of three trials by 1¼ lengths while setting the top qualifying mark of :18.113 seconds into a 12 mph headwind.

Jason Olmstead saddled the First Moonflash colt to his first career win for Maher. Bred in New Mexico by Mike Abraham and Celina Molina, Lethal N First was a $16,000 sale graduate from the Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale last summer. His record stands at (3)1-2-0 with earnings of $8,050.

Olmstead also saddled second fastest qualifier Corona Concierge winner of the first trial in the second fastest clocking of :18.331 seconds. Tom Maher owns the Corona Cartel filly in partnership with Bill Maher. The $62,000 Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling broke her maiden in her first start when she won a trial for the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity at Remington Park but failed to qualify.

Bred by Bobby D. Cox, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Dianetogetcha, she broke her maiden in the North Central Quarter Horse Racing Association Futurity trial in her third career start.

Jockey Cody Smith was aboard the top two finalists as well as 8th qualifier I Am Ron Burgundy. Jason Olmstead saddled all three. Ed Ross Hardy was the only other trainer with multiple qualifiers getting 5th qualifier Trinity River Bell and 9th qualifier Tty From Mr Pye.
