Painted Laico Bird Continues Streak By Winning Mr Master Bug, Count De Monet In The Juvenile

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 20, 2014—Easter Sunday afternoon at Remington Park featured a pair of Oklahoma-bred stakes events as 3-year-olds went to the gate in the $73,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes while 2-year-olds battled in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile.

Painted Laico Bird is quickly rising through the ranks this season as she racked up her third straight win of 2014 by taking the Mr Master Bug. Owned by the Noble, Okla. partnership of Charles Hainline and Jimmy Jones, Painted Laico Bird is trained by Luz Chavira. Jockey Ivan Carnero was up for the victory as the Painted Laico Bird defeated heavy 1-2 wagering favorite Coronado Cartel to win by a neck. BP Wagon Train was another half-length back for third.

Painted Laico Bird handled the 350 yards of the Mr Master Bug in :17.363 seconds over a fast track at odds of 9-2. She paid $11.60 to win, $3.40 to place and $3 to show. Coronado Cartel paid $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. BP Wagon Train returned $3.20 to show.

The win was the fourth from nine career starts for Painted Laico Bird with all of the wins taking place at Remington Park. She is by Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the Call Me Together mare Laico Bird Chic and was bred in Oklahoma by Jimmy Jones. The first-place check of $43,800 in the Mr Master Bug boosts her career bankroll to $90,460.

Making his first start since finishing fifth in the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity(G1) last November at Lone Star Park, Coronado Cartel picked up $14,600 to boost his career total to $371,348. Eddie D. Willis conditions the Corona Cartel colt out of First Carolina, by Mr Jess Perry, for Reliance Ranches, LLC. Weetona Stanley and William E. Smith bred last year's Remington Park Futurity winner .

Also starting for the first time since finishing second in the Southwest Juvenile Championship (G2) at Zia Park, Bp Wagon Train finished third for owner Jakita Investments, LLC. Trey Wood saddled the Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price. The $8,030 show check pushed his earnings total to $118,701. Also a finalist in last year's $1.075 Heritage Place Futurity, Bp Wagon Train is out of the First Down Dash mare Ladys Is First.

Walking Perry and Sm Chicks N Garters completed the field after Heavens Assured and Heza Fast Invictus scratched.

The Mr Master Bug is named after the 1982 All American Futurity winner. He was a multiple American Quarter Horse Association Champion, racing for Marvin and Lela Barnes of Ada, Okla.

Bobby Cox's Count De Monet Wins $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile

A field of 10 Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds that competed in trials for the Remington Park Futurity but did not make that final, had their chance on Easter in the Juvenile Stakes at 330 yards. Count De Monet used a sharp start and fighting effort to fend off rivals to capture the win by a neck.

Owned by Bobby Cox of Fort Worth, Texas and trained by John Buchanan, Count De Monet was ridden by Russel Hadley. The gelding crossed the finish in :16.887 seconds and picked up his first career victory from two attempts.

Dismissed at 13-1 odds in the wagering, Count De Monet paid $29 to win, $9 to place and $6 to show. Days Gone Down was up for second, returning $8.80 to place and $6 to show. A Dashing Valentine was a head behind the runner-up for third and paid $3.60 to show. BP Mariahs Valentine was fourth and was coupled in the wagering with BP First Class. The entry was the betting favorite at 3-5 odds.

Count De Monet is by Brimmerton from the Chicks Beduino mare Royal Delphias Chick and was bred by Vaughn and Jill Cook. The Juvenile win earned him $40,000.

Ruthard-Wood Quarter Horses GP's Days Gone Down earned $17,000 for this second place effort. Kasey Willis saddled the Shazoom gelding from the Mr Eye Opener mare Fantastic Six. Agustin Silva had the riding call on the Womack/Cavender Farms' Oklahoma-bred.

Luz Chavira saddled A Dashing Valentine to his third place effort for owner Jose Guzman. Santa Fe Roldan, Inc. bred the Tempting Dash colt in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Valentine. Ridden by Ivan Carnero, he earned $11,000.

Bp Mariahs Heroine, Corona Rattler, Bp First Class, Ting Ting Tac, Tzunami Is Okay, Docs Dusty Dale and Thanks For The Dash completed the order-of-finish.
