Fales, Dejon Dominates Deserts Classic Futurity Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 13, 2014—Trainer Matthew M. Fales saddled six of the 10 finalists for the Desert Classic Futurity Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise. Dejon, a stakes-placed bother to two-time AQHA Racing Champion Noconi, sired five finalists.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the three trial races, will return to Turf Paradise on Friday, May 2 and vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-added purse going 300 yards.

First Storm Tide, under jockey Rodolfo Arvizu, defeated Seemerock by 1˝ lengths in the second trial to post the top qualifying time of :16.171 seconds into a 13 mph headwind. Owned-and-trained by Ricardo Ramirez, the First Down Dash colt out of American Purse, by Chicks Beduino, made his career debut in the trials. William C. Thompson, DDS bred the gray colt in California.

Dejon's Mr Jess Fast defeated Magical Righter by a neck in the final trial to post the second fastest time of :16.259 seconds. Eddie Megariz conditions the homebred for Juan Carlos Moraga. Out of the Fast Debonair mare Super Fast Deb, the gelding came into the trials off an off-the-board performance at Sunland Park on March 2.

Moraga owns Dejon, who stands at Mountain States Equine in Hobbs, New Mexico. The son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry also sired the 4th, 6th and 8th Desert Classic Futurity qualifiers.

Trainer Matthew Fales saddled the first of his six finalists in the first race when Jess One Looke defeated Jess For Cucu by a neck to get the third fastest time of :16.266. Ralph and Carolyn Fales and Jesus Javier Barboa own the Jesse James Jr filly out of the Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane. Sunday's trial race was the first start for the MJ Farms New Mexico-bred miss.

Fales also conditions Jess For Cucu, 4th, Seemerock 5th, Jess A Cowboy 6th, Jess Wanna Have Fun 7th, and Jess Rockn 10th qualifier.
