Keener Saddles Four Trial Winners, All Qualify For American Paint Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 13, 2014—Trainer Dee Keener dominated in four of the first five races Sunday afternoon at Remington Park, all were trials for the Grade 1 PBSA American Paint Classic Futurity. Keener trains four of the five trial winners with all four making the field of 10 for the April 26 final at 350 yards.

The Paint Horse Queens of Coweta, Okla. own three of the four Keener winners headed to the American Paint Classic including High On Mary Jane, the top qualifier. A 2-year-old filly, High On Mary Jane won the second trial race under jockey Bryan Ernst, covering the 350 yards in :18.211 seconds over a fast track.

High On Mary Jane won her first career race from just two attempts with the trial score. A daughter of Judys Lineage from the Holland Ease (qh) mare The Hippie Chick (qh), High On Mary Jane was bred in Oklahoma by Wendy Ingersoll.

The other Paint Horse Queen-winners were PHQ Princess Stefanie and The Punk, with the latter making the final.

All five of the trials for the American Paint Classic were conducted into strong headwinds out of the south ranging from 29 to 31mph.

While the trials for the American Paint Classic were run into a strong headwind, things changed for the final four races Sunday. After a strong but brief rainstorm with hail passed over Remington Park, a cooling front followed with the winds moving from the north for the rest of the day.

The 2014 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season at Remington Park continues Thursday thru Sunday, April 17-20 with racing nightly at 6pm except for Sunday at 1:30pm. Saturday, April 19 features a stakes-laden program led by the $791,000 Remington Park Futurity for Oklahoma-breds.
