Onemoreglassofwine (outside) gets up over Royally Sandra in the $17,000 Elan Again Handicap on Friday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Francisco Rubio for trainer Francisco Ramirez, Onemoreglassofwine covered the 350-yard race in a time of :17.576. The 4-year-old daughter of Heza Fast Dash also snapped a five-race losing streak with her half-length victory over the Ruidoso Futurity and Rainbow Derby finalist Royally Sandra. Onemoreglassofwine earned $9,350 for her win in the Elan Again to lift her career earnings to $97,290.

“She’ll always be special to me,” Ramirez said. “She was born at the farm and raised there. I prepped her for the sale in Oklahoma and I was there when we brought her back after no one bought her. We broke her at the ranch and we trained her there and now I’ve seen her win four races including a derby and this handicap race. She’s shown that she’s a good runner.

“Some people didn’t like how she looked when she was a baby and some didn’t like the way she was bred. She is out of a First Down Dash mare and Heza Fast Dash is out of a full sister of First Down Dash. That made her bloodlines pretty close and people would say to ‘Scoop’ Vessels ‘why did you do that?’ Scoop enjoyed trying different things with his horses and I remember that when he didn’t sell her he said, ‘let’s bring her back home and we’ll show them what she’s all about.’ She’s an honest filly and she’s become a runner. I hope she keeps it up. Hopefully she surprises again in the Millie Vessels Handicap (on September 30). She’ll always be memorable to me as a trainer. She’s given me some of my best highlights and I hope that those kind of moments keep on happening.”

Trained by Paul Jones, Royally Sandra, a daughter of Royal Quick Dash who earned $3,825.

Sheza Shy Shahayla finished third and was followed across the wire by Azshecanfly, Sheza Fast Habit and Yakeeta Yak.
