Thirty-Three Sophomores Entered in Heritage Place Derby Trials

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK--MAY 9, 2024--Thirty-three 3-year-olds, led by graded stakes winners SC Time To Run and Dollar Bill, are entered in Saturday's Heritage Place Derby (G2) trials at Remington Park.

The ten fastest qualifiers from the four 400-yard heats will meet in the June 1, $225,000-est. Heritage Place Derby final.

A gelded son of world champion Apollitical Jess and champion Spit Curl Jess, SC Time To Run is trained by Jed Vane for owner Dunn Ranch. SC Time To Run is coming off of a neck victory in the March 24, $204,000 El Primero del Ano Derby (G2) for 3-year-old colts and geldings at Los Alamitos Racecourse.

SC Time To Run was a $335,000 purchase at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The gelding drew post three and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon in the third trial.

Dollar Bill races for Genesis Tovar from the barn of trainer Juan Diaz Jr. A sorrel son of Kiss My Hocks, the gelding won last year's 350-yard, $700,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Retama Park. He ended his 2-year-old campaign with a third-place finish in Texas' richest horse race, the November 18, $1.176-million Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Dollar Bill drew post six and will be ridden by Nestor Duran in the first heat.

Other prominent sophomores entered in Saturday's trials include Jo Rice's Cardiac Cowboy, a homebred son of Flying Cowboy 123 trained by Jason Olmstead. Cardiac Cowboy has earned $211,469 from 10 races, and his four wins include a half-length victory in last year's 350-yard, $204,000 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Cardiac Cowboy drew post nine and will be ridden by Ramiro H. Garcia in the second trial.
