Coronados Fate Surges Late To Upset Mr Master Bug Stakes at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 27, 2024–Coronados Fate surged late from the outside post to run down heavy post-time favorite Flyin Rabbit 123 in the $68,000 Oklahoma-Bred Mr Master Bug Stakes at Remington Park Saturday.

Jockey Jimmy Brooks guided Coronados Fate to a head win while completing the 350 yards in :17.740 seconds, an 88-speed index into a 24 mph headwind. It was the fourth career win and first stakes victory for the son of multiple stakes sire Coronado Cartel.

Leading trainer Eddie D. Willis conditions the homebred for owner-breeder Reliance Ranches LLC. Bred from the Mr Jess Perry mare Fate Cant Weight, Coronados Fate used the $39,000 Mr Master Bug winner's purse to increase his earnings total to $129,514. 

Last season the brown colt was second in the Black Gold Colts & Geldings Futurity and a finalist in the Heritage Place Juvenile Stakes.

Making his 3-year-old debut in the Mr Master Bug, Grade 2 stakes winner Flyin Rabbit 123 snapped a three-race win streak that included the Southwest Juvenile Invitational(G2) and Texas Classic Juvenile late last year. Bumped at the start Flyin Rabbit 123 led the race late. He was also fourth in the Grade 1 All American Futurity. 

Trainer Toby Keeton saddled the Flying Cowboy 123 gelding for owner-breeder Louis A. Malechek, III.  Out of the Foose mare Hardtoget, Flyin Rabbit 123 has won four of nine career starts and boosted his earnings to $307,438 after pocketing $13,000 tonight.

Half-a-length off the leaders' Backside Bobby earned $7,150 for finishing third. Trainer Stacey Capps saddled the Im A Fancy Pyc gelding for owner Eugenio Navarrete. A finalist in the OQHRA Mystery Futurity(RG2) last fall, the brown gelding is out of Royal Stiletto by Corona Cartel. Bred by Scott M. Traylor, he has earned $61,458 in seven starts.  

Mfs Cheerio, Jess A Redneck Cowboy, Hamlyn Praying Monk and Mystic Paint completed the field.

The remainder of the racing program for Saturday April 27 after race 6 was cancelled due to severe weather. Live racing is scheduled to resume Sunday, April 28. First race starts at 4 p.m.
