Lews Muddybuddy Scores Second Career Victory in $68,000 Laico Bird Stakes [G3]

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 27, 2024–The second stakes race on Saturday night’s card at Remington Park was slated for Oklahoma-bred two-year-olds. Lews Muddybuddy got his second career win from two starts in the $68,000 Laico Bird Stakes [G3].

Lews Muddybuddy, piloted by Roman Cruz, broke late but quickly surged between RR God And Cowboys and Liberty For Jess to take the lead at the wire by a head. The two-year-old gelding sired by Big Lew clocked an 80 speed index in :17.111 seconds against a 24 mph headwind.

The wagering favorite’s 330-yard victory paid $3.40 to win on 4/5 odds. The $39,000 winner’s share of the purse increased Lews Muddybuddy’s earnings to $53,105. The two-time winner broke his maiden in March at Remington Park.

Trainer Juvenal Licona-Vazquez sent Lews Muddybuddy to the track for owners/breeders Margaret and Gene Mudd of Mounds, Oklahoma. The bay gelding is out of Mudd D Dash by Pure D Dash.

Jockey Bryan Candanosa guided RR God For Cowboys to his second place finish which paid $9.20 to place on 15/1 odds. The son of Big Lew, who has a record of 1-1-1 from three starts, broke his maiden in his first out earlier this season at Remington Park and now has $27,811 in career earnings

Breeder Reliance Ranches sold RR God And Cowboys for $17,000 in last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The Pedro Hernandez-Pulido trained colt is owned by Jason Chinn and out of First Of 15 by Apollitical Jess.

Liberty For Jess, piloted by Edwin Escobedo, got into it at the stretch and pulled into the lead but fell short at the wire for third. The Oklahoma-bred colt has one win from two starts with $24,656 in the bank.

Milton Broadnax owns, trains and bred the son of Dash Master Jess. Liberty For Jess is out of the Rushago mare Liberty Rush.

The remaining finish orders are Run D, High Dollar Dynasty, Shaken Goin On, BV Chick Magnet and Im Riled Up. Lightly Painted and Roll Another One were scratched.

The remainder of the racing program for Saturday, April 27 after race 6 was cancelled due to severe weather. Live racing is scheduled to resume on Sunday, April 28. The first race starts at 4 p.m.
