Two-time Champion Uncle D Gets First Graded Stakes Winner

GUTHRIE, OK–APRIL 29, 2024–Two-time champion and leading first-crop sire Uncle D sired his first stakes winner on Monday when Heavens Uncle held off a charging field in the restrcited Grade 1 $854,775 Remington Park Futurity for Oklahoma-bred juveniles.

Heavens Uncle got up for a head victory over My Fancy Corona (5-1), flying from the outside 10-post. Heavens Uncle looked a lot like his sire as he roared to victory.

Uncle D won a Heritage Place Futurity trial at Remington Park in 2019 and then was the runner-up in that million-dollar final to Uptowne Babe before winning the Rainbow Futurity(G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Heavens Uncle, out of the stakes-winning Streak and Dash mare Heavens Assured, has won two of three starts this year and banked $371,832 for owner-breeder Sherry Gilmore. Guillermo Valdivia is the trainer.

In his first crop to race, Uncle D has sired five winners with earnings of $462,180 and average earnings per starter of more than $16,506.

His top performers include the aforementioned Grade 1 winner Heavens Uncle (2 wins at 2, $371,832, Remington Park Futurity-RG1), Ruth D (winner, $18,785, 4th Laico Bird Stakes), Eye An D (trial winner in only start, $8,883), Special D (trial winner in only start, $6,747), etc.

Uncle D, a son of leading sire Corona Cartel, won or placed in nine of 10 career starts and earned $689,165.  He was named AQHA Racing's Champion 2-Year-Old and 2-Year-Old Colt after winning the Rainbow Futurity(G1), All American Juvenile land finishing second in the Heritage Place Futurity(G1).
